PUBLICATION 2

My 2nd Article Publication

Students and Alumni from the SUNY perfusion program are doing great things to contribute to the perfusion community!

I was fortunate to have the opportunity to write a article this month called "Impressions Within the Online Community." The article was published in the May/June issue of AmSECT Today. I discussed Facebook in particular and gave suggestions on maintaining professionalism with colleagues, peers, and other health professionals.

New York Fall '12

Upstate New York definitely has more to offer then us Texans ever could have imagined.

Hike and Camping trip in the Adirondack

Glad my iPhone was able to capture this beauty!

Thankful for this lean-to, especially with the downpour of rain that night!

This video was created to put a smile on the faces of all those familiar with Simulation Labs in perfusion schools. The humor comes from the saying .. "At Upstate Medical, we train like athletes!"

PUBLICATION

I recently had the opportunity to write an article in AmSECT, the American Society of Extracorporeal Technology. AmSECT is a National Society of Perfusionists that publishes an AmSECT Today newsletter every few months. As you can see in the picture, I wrote on professionalism and first impressions. This was my first contribution and I will hopefully have the chance to write again in the future.

Texas Christmas Vacation 2011

Katherine and I had the opportunity to fly back to Texas for a 3 week Christmas vacation. We spend a week in Abilene with her mom and step-dad, a week in Brownwood with her father and step-mother, and then our last week in San Antonio with my family. The weather was great, the family and friends entertained us with  exciting adventures, and we ate tons of delicious food. It was a great trip and we are very grateful for everyone who made this Christmas special.

1 Chronicles 16:34

Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.

Mark (Katherine's dad), Katherine, me, Tucker (Katherine's younger brother), Chase, and Kandyce and Kassie (Katherine's sisters). We spend a week out on Mark's 1600 acres and on this evening we were all gearing up to hunt wild hogs on his property.

Christmas day, we caught and killed 3 wild hogs-success!

Katherine's cooking dinner tonight, who's hungry!?

I spend the next hour of this night trying to convince my wife to spend the night in the tee-pee with myself and her younger brother. Unfortunately, Tucker and I lost and we went home.

Driving around at the ranch in this 3 speed old army jeep was a blast!

Mark and the family sent us home with some INCREDIBLE deer jerky from this beast!

A few more wild hogs caught by a family friend.

Oh wouldn't it be nice to be retired and have the time and money to work on a beauty like this.

Country girls, oh and Chase!

I was lucky enough to find a small arrow head at the ranch. Definitely a treasure that will be locked up in a safe spot.

Evening on the river-walk in San Antonio, Texas.

The new LED lights on the river-walk were a nice touch.

Fellow students in the Cardiovascular Program at SUNY Upstate Medical
Myself, Felicia, Kelley, Claire, Chris, and Tom
This photo was taken at our white coat ceremony where we were honored as an entering class into the college. We were introduced to several important faces on campus and given our white coats. Family and friends of the students joined the ceremony to help congratulate the incoming class.

My wife Katherine and I had the amazing opportunity to witness the beginning of fall in upstate New York at Highland Forest, about 30 minutes from Syracuse. We went on a 7 mile hike through the beautiful scenery.

The four of us ran a relay marathon October of 2011 in the Empire State Marathon event held in Syracuse, New York. We placed 15th out of the overall relay teams and 6th in the mixed division. Having the opportunity to participate in an event like this where it is a collaborative effort is truly exciting. Equally exciting was seeing all the supportive families out at the race to cheer on loved ones, from those running the 10K, half marathon, full marathon individually or as a team. All the support and cheers from the crowd made for a incredible experience.
